Community Art is about co-creation -- sharing the art of creation in the context of a community...of friends, family, neighbors, or some other collection of people.
As a community artist, I have taken a leading role in several community-building projects or events: Alameda Marketplace Festival, Sizzling Summer Showcase, TellHerStory Project, the Creatrix Collaborative and the Lavender Scrolls Project.
Other kinds of community arts gatherings I have hosted are Mask making, Ukrainian Egg making, Tie-dyeing, Earthworks art, Shawl making, Face and Body painting, Dream Pantomiming, Drumming and Song Circles, Clay working, Dance and Movement, Beading, Bardic Story Circles, Life Rites of Passage gatherings, Memorials, and Peace and Healing Circles.
Almost always, I find that when people get together to create or share something, despite fears and old destructive messages, there is ultimately surprise, excitement, pride and fellowship.
Have you got an idea for a gathering you'd like designed or hosted? Let me know!
